Purpose Of Role:
The role holder is either leader of research activity in one or more technical areas or leader of a market ba
Key Responsibilities:
To contribute original work which leads to new solutions to research problems in areas supporting BT’s strategic priorities, or new fields with potential impact on BT’s future business.
To manage research projects/market or commercial analysis projects, or tasks within projects (both internal to BT and/or with collaborative partners).
To communicate commercial opportunities to all levels with maximum impact.
To influence the strategic direction of technical projects in order that BT can intercept the most appropriate market opportunity with best effect.
To provide line management, mentoring or guidance of researchers, technicians or students (as required).
To propose and pursue new opportunities for BT arising from his/her research (e.g. new revenues, cost savings or improvements to customer service).
To provide technical leadership by setting the strategy by which recognised specific problems or challenges will be overcome/establishing ‘technical’ approaches to market analysis problems that will deliver the requirements of the analysis.
To take a lead role when working with clients (internal or external) and collate the combined outputs of the technical team to present back to the customer.

Regarded as subject matter expert and applies advanced subject matter knowledge to complex business issues or technical problems.
Authority/Decision Making:
Exercises significant independent judgement within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best methods of accomplishing work and achieving ob
Qualifications:
Usually qualified to degree, MSc or PhD level, often with a marketing or management emphasis (MBA etc).
Skills/Experience:
Expert in one or more technical disciplines.
Relevant research experience.
