Jan. 10th, 8:19 p.m….Amy Chua’s book is coming out tomorrow and she will be in the public eye promoting it. In light of that, I just want to refer you all more directly to Christine Lu’s posting on Quora.com. In it, she talks about her sister’s suicide, the pressures related to being perfect and how Chinese mothers are NOT superior. She also quotes from an email that she said she received from Amy Chua: “Dear Christine, Thank you for taking the time to write to me, and I’m so sorry about your sister. I did not choose the title of the WSJ excerpt, and I don’t believe that there is only one good way of raising children. The actual book is more nuanced, and much of it is about my decision to retreat from the ‘strict Chinese immigrant model.’ Best of luck to you, Amy Chua.”
