Headquartered in US, our client is a world-leading manufacturer of transport refrigeration and air conditioning products. Part of a US$ 8+ billion company, Asia Pacific revenues are currently in the ballpark of US$ 50 million.
Currently, the company is actively looking for a Managing Director, Asia in order to take the company to the next stage of development for China marketplace
RESPONSIBILITIES
Setting and developing company’s Asia Pacific strategic plans, with a focus on growing overall market share and revenues in the Asia Pacific.
Leading all commercial activities, with a focus on running regional sales and distributor activities, through both direct and indirect channels.
Coordinating and setting of operational plans and budgets for the region with the country teams, distributors and dealers.
Implementing and optimizing key strategies for marketing, commercial, communications and service quality with a strong customer service orientation, as well as oversight of configuration and manufacturing operations.
Motivating and mobilizing all members of the Asia Pacific team in order to intensify activities and achieve growth segment-by-segment and country-by-country.
Growing distributor and major account revenues by deploying proactive business development efforts targeting decisions makers.
Managing costs, developing recommendations and monitoring business risk
Working independently, however, drawing on head office resources.
Developing plans to address channel strategies as well as customer strategies to deepen customer relationships.
Manufacturing - implementing the necessary ERP, manufacturing and supply chain management practices to ensure high quality, on-time delivery of products.
Service - developing a service strategy for the Asia Pacific as well as establishing strong growth plans for both the parts and service businesses in Asia.
Ability to interface with and manage partners to achieve the desired business results.
Upgrading the organization through identification and development of talent, succession planning and development of local leadership potential.
Motivating the local teams to work towards results-oriented behavior through the use of performance metrics and rewards.
It is expected the individual initially focus will primarily be on China and India, while also developing existing and new markets in the Asia Pacific region.
THE PERSON
The ideal candidate will be an Asian or Western expatriate with 12-15+ years work experience, of which at least 3-5 years’ will have been in a senior managerial position with a proven track record and extensive commercial experience with a multinational organization in Greater China or Asia. There is a preference for individuals who have experience running a substantial size single country (preferably in Greater China), as well as multiple countries in the Asia Pacific.
It is essential the Managing Director, Asia have a strong commercial orientation and good management skills. The successful candidate will preferably be a seasoned country, sub-regional or divisional General Manager. The other possibility is a candidate who has extensive experience running an Asia Pacific sales and marketing organization. All candidates will have a proven track record of successful growing business, and increasing revenues, profitability and market share.
Other than a strong sales and distribution/channel management background, the General Manager, Asia will have solid marketing as well as strategic thinking capabilities. Although sales execution is key, the individual must have the capability to set strategic direction, develop operational models and drive business growth. The individual should also have some form of technical background, and be able to effectively grasp technical elements of the products.
A solid understanding of Chinese, Indian and broader Asian customers, local markets, and the dynamics of development are very important. The incumbent will have broad experience across multiple functions, including the development and implementation of product positioning and launches, distributor management, people development and day-to-day operations.
The Managing Director, Asia must be comfortable developing and implementing strategies and action plans. The candidate must also have solid leadership capabilities, and know how to lead, motivate and develop local teams.
The individual will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and will be someone who can quickly gain respect and be viewed as a solid leader by subordinates and peers.
In terms of the personality, the finalist will be independent, energetic, mature and hands-on with good teamwork, strong leadership and solid interpersonal skills. The individual will be able to work under the pressure and take on new challenges. The person must be a good ideas generator and commercial savvy with good business acumen.
The candidate will hold the minimum of an undergraduate degree in sales, marketing, business, or a technical field. An MBA would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite. It is essential the individual have excellent English capabilities and be computer literate. Mandarin language skills are a definite advantage, but are not compulsory.
